Industry Standard Definitions

California Proposition 65

Proposition 65 requires businesses to notify Californians about significant amounts of chemicals in the products they purchase, in their homes or workplaces, or that are released into the environment. By providing this information, Proposition 65 enables Californians to make informed decisions about protecting themselves from exposure to these chemicals. Proposition 65 also prohibits California businesses from knowingly discharging significant amounts of listed chemicals into sources of drinking water.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

Manufacturers must follow laws and regulations for the disposal of waste.

ISO Quality Certification

Registration to ISO 9001 provides objective proof that a business has implemented an effective quality management system, and that it satisfies all of the requirements of the applicable standard. An external, impartial expert called a registrar conducts an on-site audit to determine whether or not a company is in conformance to the standard. If they are found to be in conformance, they will be issued a certificate showing their address, scope of operations and the seals of the accreditation bodies that give the registrar its legitimacy.

American National Standards Institute (ANSI)

ANSI oversees the creation, promulgation, and use of thousands of norms and guidelines that directly impact businesses in nearly every sector.  ANSI is also actively engaged in accrediting programs that assess conformance to standards – including globally-recognized cross-sector programs such as the ISO 9000 (quality) and ISO 14000 (environmental) management systems.

OSHA Rules

Criteria employers are required to follow in order to ensure workplace safety and health.

American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM)

ASTM is an organization that develops international consensus standards.  These 12,000+ standards are used to improve product quality, enhance safety, facilitate market access and trade, and build consumer confidence.
